Westminster
Hall, the walls of which were built at the end of the 11th century
is the oldest extant building at the Palace of Westminster, more
commonly known as the Houses of Parliament.
Richard II had the original roof replaced by the present magnificent
hammerbeam roof in the late 1300's.
The spiritual shade of Guy Fawkes, a ringleader in the ill-fated
Gunpowder Plot designed to blow up Parliament, The Palace of Westminster
and Westminster Abbey, has been seen here dressed in his hat and
cape. This was the scene of his trial,
Looking neither left nor right he is thought to disappear into one
of the myriad passageways leading to his stock of secret explosives.
