On Swains Lane can be found the main entrance to Highgate Cemetery as well as several smaller gates.

       It was in front of one of these locked and heavily chained entrances that a stranded motorist trudging his weary way home from his broken down vehicle found himself face to face with a grisly ghoul, its gruesome face contorted in a ghostly ghastly grimace glaring through the gates with its bony fingers clutching and shaking the rusted iron bars.
