The
spectre of a woman often seen on the great staircase of The Midland
Grand Hotel (now known as St Pancras Chambers) is believed to be
that of a maid employed at the hotel in the early 1900s.
Finding herself pregnant, out of wedlock and spurned by the father
of the unborn child, this poor desperate girl believed that she
had no other option but to throw herself off the top floor of the staircase
and died pitifully in the stairwell below.
Unable to pass on she has been seen
sobbing silently, wringing her hands and begging forgiveness'.
Roman soldiers have also been seen to be searching the basement.
Perhaps they seek the grave of Boudica, Queen of the Iceni, (who died
in 62AD), which is rumoured to be situated underneath platform 10
of the adjacent Kings Cross Railway Station.
